New Treeditions

New Treeditions is a video-projection project reflecting on connection and distance. On Springfield Farm in Locust Grove, Virginia grow two holly trees, a male and female. There is a distance of about fifty feet between them and across that distance and the ages they’ve sustained a relationship through their pollination cycle, the results of which can be seen growing in the surrounding woods. This kinship led to contemplation of the relationships people sustained across varying distances during quarantine. I began recording zoom conversations between myself in Virginia and my partner in New York. I projected those conversations onto the holly trees, mundanities made extraordinary by the distance they're exchanged across and the counterparts they are projected onto.
